This is the band’s first performance with Morse, who is a new Associate Director of Bands at Sac State. He recently graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting from the University of North Texas, where he was a conducting student of Eugene Corporon. Morse earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey, in 2011 and subsequently completed a Master of Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting in 2013 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was a student of Jack Stamp. Concurrent with finishing his undergraduate degree in 2011, Morse retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 following a 25-year military music career with the United States Army.
“Morse is an experienced conductor, euphonium and bass trombone player who served many years as a bandmaster in the Army,” said Auburn Winds Secretary Vince Warm, who plays tenor saxophone. “We are lucky to have him as our new conductor, and we’re excited to see where he will lead us in the future!”
The band’s previous conductor, Brian O’Donnell, recently completed a Master of Music in orchestral conducting at Sac State and will be moving out of the area soon to pursue a conducting career with the United States Air Force.
“Brian is a great conductor and will be missed,” said Auburn Winds President Bill Borba. “The band members are extremely proud of his decision to serve our country in the Air Force, and we wish him great success!”
