Auburn Winter Storytelling Fest

The Foothill Storytelling Guild will present a storytelling celebration on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the General Gomez Event Center, 808 Lincoln Way in Auburn, California, 95603. This free community event will reignite the pleasure of telling and listening to tales being told.

10:30 am – Starting off is a family friendly storytelling session with story-related crafts featuring tales for all ages told, sung, and read aloud. There may even be a child storyteller to add to the fun.

1:00 pm – A workshop for beginning storytellers, “Diving into Storytelling”, offers a quick overview of the Art of Storytelling. The workshop will be conducted by BZ Smith, a long-time storyteller and the Sierra Nevada Representative of the National Storytelling Network.

2:45 pm – The public is invited to present five minute stories during Open Telling. Stories must be family-friendly and presented orally with no notes. Sign-up at the desk earlier in the day to tell.

4:30 pm – A Liar’s Contest closes out the afternoon. Participants present tall tales, whoppers and just plain untruths while vying for the “Biggest Liar in Town” trophy. Stories must be five minutes or less and sign-up forms will be available on the contest day.

7 pm – After a dinner break the two- hour Tellers Showcase will highlight experienced regional storytellers including Joan Stockbridge, Mike Tomson, Margaret Main, Tom Wade, Linda Kennedy and BZ Smith.
